32GB SD Cards on Treo
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:10:02 AM »

So I wanted to know who else is using/has used a 32Gig card on a Treo (clearly only 700p or 680 users), and to see what kind of success you've had withem. I have one (in fact, I've tried more than one), but for some reason it only loads as "read-only" - even with nothing on it at all after a fresh format. (The card is fully functional on any compyouter with any SDHC reader though)

My own 700p has a "mal"functioning SD loader somehow - it will actually keep the card loaded if I take the card out until another program is run (background or foreground), but then it cannot load a card after a dismount without a soft reset (bad explanation for a very wIErd malfunctioning), so I'm trying to see if others have different experiences. (I remember Dr. Gwen having mentioned getting one about which she wasn't too sure, but IIRC that didn't end too goodly.) Thanks; holla

on a more serious note, have you, eh, tried a hard reset to see if it'll work properly? perhaps you can reload the sdio driver into RAM so it'll be used instead of the ROM one?

(of course, make sure you have a current backup handy)

I want a 32gb but can't find one in my price range as yet.    I am using an 8gb card without difficulty  of course only 4gb will register in the information area of the palm.

I have not had any problems with the larger card, I think that when it first loads on then it takes a while the larger the card the longer the time.

This is going to sound simplistic but is the lock card button switched to lock?

Yeah I thought about doing that, but just used my 650 (with ROM mod) instead - same results.

The cards themselves work just fine tho, so even tho the 650 wasn't working either, I'm still thinking the brokenness of the 700p has something to do with it. I'll still try a HR latar tho - glad to kno they at least should work tho -> +1 4 U lito

Dr Gwen - as far as the card loading, I had at first actually loaded everything from my 8GB card onto the 32 one, but then 1nce I popped it in the 700, it froze up and corrupted the entire PALM folder. So I formatted the card, tried again... same result. So I formatted one of the other cards, tried again... same result. So this time I error corrected the card, deleted the PALM folder (and the chk folder), put the card in with NO palm folder... and it loads fine, but as read-only

So then I tested a blank freshly formatted card... loads, but read-only.

(To note, my 8GB cards have been fine, but one of them actually BROKE, and the other one has an unstable file system that dismounts the card practically every time I write to it unless it is being read at the time - so when I backup, I have to leave pTunes running in the background! :geez:)

Oh Dr. Gwen - just like a true makeover counselor!

Guess you didn read the fine-print on the SD histories... I'm a part of the credits on all those threads - who do you think put the drivers there!

But yeah - like I said, I've been using my 8GB cards for years and generally without issue; and since lito confirmed that they should work fine, I'm hoping it's just the device... and not the card :uhoh:. I'll let yall kno if I find n e thing else tho (tho I just had a scare after a corrupted transfer happened just with using the PC and cardreader) - hope it's not another "too good to be true" situation :geez:

dickie:

h2testw.exe is an utility that checks integrity of flash media .... I found it looking for a checker for my fake chIpod. it writes sequential blocks to the device / card and then verifies the files ...

perhaps you've got a funky card?

jaf0.

(and sorry for the poke about 32MB.  )

Well, I couldn't believe you were having troubles dickieD  LOL  so I guess I'm stunned and I thought you'd have a solution already

What can I say- but seriously try the lower level format of the SD card on a pc- this is different than a standard format.

check these out you know better than I what you are doing

lito - YOU GOT ME AGAIN! I COMPLETELY coulda swaired that I read "32GB" in your post! Definite -1 4 U :shame: - well, maybe not (I'll x-plain latar...)

Dr. Gwen, yeap I had all ready tried reformatting the card with different partition sets, but XP plain wouldn't allow FAT16 or 12 - chute, I even tried strayt command lining it and it didn't work (says card is too big for it), and even formatted to NTFS just for no reason.

N e what, bak to lito - yeah I actually have that tool, but it takes a while and I was amped and rushing when I got the card; and since the data I transferred to the card seemed to go on the card just fine, I thought it was fine. But when you suggested it, I decided to go ahead and let it run last night... and yup: it's a fake - 4GB perpetrator (and I'm pretty sure the other two are too) - so I've been hoodwinked again. All ready have the problem filed with eBay because it seemed like it may have been a scam from the start (tho I waited until others had left positive review feedback after purchasing the same cards, and several did - my guess is they were had too and jus didn't kno better); ya well.

Still... can n e one confirm that 32 gig cards *DO* work?

Well believe me I did the pebkac errors of all yesterday with you - let's just call it my blonde moment of the week.

concerning the 32 SD if I get a real one I'll let ya know-- sorry that happened!  It made me mad too so I puchased an 8gb from tiger direct or amazon instead can't remember which.   Stupid fakey ebay sellers don't buy SD cards from asia and australia.

It kinda makes me sad for folks who don't have win98 that they can't format 16 so very sad!  LOL  (dual boot system LOL)

Yes, I can laugh about it- my pebkac rate is at an all time high, see what cutting down on caffeine does!  (that is my flimsy excuse)
